Geographical Locations
Coral reefs can be found in many different locations around the world, though they are predominantly found in the Tropics Zone (between 30ºN-30ºS latitude). Many coral reefs are located in clumps near the Caribbean Sea, surrounding the Caribbean Islands, the tip of Florida, and the north-east coasts of Central America and South America. Some coral reefs can be found near the south Pacific Islands, on the east coast of Africa, and surrounding the tip of India and Sri Lanka (the Maldives). However, the majority of coral reefs can be found clustered around the Philippines, Indonesia, and the coast of Australia. There you can find the Great Barrier Reef; the largest coral reef in the world in addition to many others. Coral reefs occupy roughly 1% of the ocean floor an are estimated to coat about 109,800 square miles of the sea floor.
